Section 3: Application of Transfer Credit to the Core Curriculum
Transfer coursework will generally apply automatically to the Core Curriculum section of your Interactive Degree Audit (IDA) if it transfers as a direct equivalent to a current UT Austin Core Curriculum course.
Under Texas Administrative Code §4.28, coursework completed at another Texas public institution before enrolling at UT Austin may also satisfy a Core Curriculum component if the sending institution designated the course as part of its approved Core Curriculum, even if it transfers as elective credit.
Example
A course such as DANC 2303 from Austin Community College transfers to UT Austin as T D 3HRS. Although it is not a direct UT equivalent, it satisfies the Visual and Performing Arts (050) Core requirement because it was approved as part of ACC’s Core Curriculum as an 050 course.
Section 4: Completion of the Core Curriculum
All undergraduate students pursuing a degree at UT Austin must complete the 42-hour Texas Core Curriculum unless they enter the university with Core Complete or Core Waived status.
Students who enter with either designation are not required to complete additional Core Curriculum coursework unless required by their degree program.
Core Complete
Students entering UT Austin from a Texas public institution are generally considered Core Complete if an official transcript indicates one of the following prior to matriculation:
- Core Complete designation
- Bachelor’s degree from a Texas public university
- Academic Associate degree from a Texas public community college
Section 5: Core Waived
Students who have earned a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution outside the Texas public higher education system are generally designated Core Waived.
This means:
Remaining Core Curriculum requirements are waived for undergraduate degree completion.
The waiver applies only to the UT Austin degree audit.
Core Waived status does not appear on the UT Austin transcript.
Some degree programs may still require specific Core courses or prerequisite coursework.
